Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease is a term referring to a number of disorders in the heard and blood vessel system including heart attack, stroke, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular disease. CVD is the leading health problem in the Western world. Cardiovascular disease can be characterized by a number of symptoms, including a narrowing of the coronary arteries, inadequate blood flow from the heart, abnormal rhythm of the heartbeat, and a decrease in the elasticity of the arteries. When the main coronary arteries become completely blocked a heart attack can occur causing damage to the heart muscle. Lifestyle and diet are two of the main contributors to cardiovascular disease.
Be sure to eat a well balanced diet including plenty of fiber from sources such as cereal, vegetables, and fruits. Raw foods, and low-fat protein sources are recommended. Include garlic and onions in your diet to help reduce serum cholesterol levels and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat raw nuts (except peanuts), olive oil, pink salmon, trout, tuna, Atlantic herring, and mackeral containing essential omega-3 fatty acids.
Avoid caffeine, chocolate, sugar, butter, red meat, fats, fried foods, processed and refined foods, soft drinks, spicy foods, and white flour products. Eliminate all known sources of sodium from your diet.
