Edema
Edema is the accumulation of fluid between the cells of the soft tissue of the body causing swelling. Edema can occur in any part of the body and can be localized in one area. The cause of edema may be serious and indicate and other disease such as AIDS, cirrhosis of the liver, congestive heart failure, diabetes, or vena cava syndrome. Common causes of edema include infection, prolonged bed rest, and allergies.
To help relieve edema eat a diet high in fiber. For protein eat eggs, broiled white fish, an broiled skinless chicken or turkey. Include some buttermilk, cottage cheese, kefir, and low-fat yogurt in the diet. Use kelp to supply minerals, exercised daily, and take hot baths twice a week. Avoid alcohol, animal protein, beef, caffeine, chocolate dairy products, dried shellfish, fried foods, gravies, olives, pickles, salt, soy sauce, tobacco, white flour, white sugar and stress.
