Menopause is the point at which a woman stops ovulation and menstruation ceases marking the end of fertility. During this phase of life the ovaries produce less of the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. During menopause a diet high in raw foods and protein supplements is recommended to stabilize blood sugar levels. Blackstrap molasses, soybean products, broccoli, dandelion greens, kelp, salmon, sardines, and white fish should be eaten regularly along with foods high is phytoestrogens such as soybeans, flaxseeds, nuts, whole grains, apples, fennel, celery, parsley, and alfalfa. Avoid dairy and most meat products as they may promote hot flashes. Alcohol, caffeine, sugar, spicy foods, hots soups, and drinks should also be avoided as they promote hot flashes and mood swings. Drink plenty of water and avoid adding salt to foods as it can cause a loss of calcium needed to keep bones strong post-menopause.
