Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s is one of the most common debilitating disease in the United States. It is a degenerative disease affecting the nervous system caused by a lack of dopamine in the brain. The disease may start with mild to moderate tremor of the hands and a general slow or heavy feeling, muscular stiffness, slowness of movement, and fatigue. More advanced symptoms include drooling, loss of appetite, a stooped, shuffling movement, tremors, impaired speech and fixed facial expression. There is no known cure and treatment is focused on relieving symptoms through drug therapy, physical therapy, and surgery. Although the cause of Parkinson’s disease is unknown, some hypothesize that exposure to environmental toxins such as herbicides and pesticides that leach into ground water is responsible along with an inability of the liver to properly filter out these toxins.
It is recommended that those with Parkinson’s eat a diet consisting mostly of raw foods, seeds, grains, nuts, and raw milk. Eat plenty of foods containing the amino acid phenylalanine such as almonds, Brazil nut, fish, pecans, pumpkin, sesame seeds, lima beans, chickpeas, and lentils. Lower protein intake and avoid animal protein by eating barley, tofu, yogurt, beans, lentils. Eat organic foods and avoid exposure to chemicals or metals such as lead or aluminum.
