Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are associated with dull, nagging aches and pains and look unusually enlarged, bulging, bluish, and lumpy. These veins are a result of poorly functioning valves and impaired blood circulation. Symptoms include swelling, restlessness, leg sores, itching, leg cramps, and heaviness in the legs. Because varicose veins are associated with poor circulation they are more commonly found in people who sit or stand in one position for extended amounts of time, sit with legs crossed and do not exercise regularly. Increased pressure on the legs from weight gain, pregnancy, and weight lifting can also contribute to varicose veins.
To improve circulation and avoid varicose veins eat a diet low in fat and refined carbohydrates with plenty of fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, blackberries, cherries, garlic, ginger, onions, pineapple, and fiber. Avoid animal protein, processed and refined foods, sugar, ice cream, fried foods, cheeses, peanuts, junk foods, tobacco, alcohol, and salt.
