Yeast Infection

Yeast infection or vaginitis is characterized by inflammation of the lining of the vagina and can include a burning and/ or itching sensation along with abnormal vaginal discharge. This condition may be caused by bacterial or fungal infection, vitamin B deficiency, irritation from products or douching, poor hygiene, or wearing non-porous clothing.  Pregnancy, diabetes, poor diet, and oral contraceptives can create imbalances leading to vaginitis.

A diet high in fiber, especially oat bran, brown rice, millet, and acidophilus is recommended. Eat plain yogurt with live cultures and avoid sugar, yeast, and fruit. Also avoid cheese, alcohol, chocolate, dried fruits, fermented foods, al grains containing gluten, ham, honey, nut butters, pickles, raw mushrooms, soy sauce, sprouts, vinegar, citrus, and acidic fruits until inflammation has subsided.
